Job Summary
The Strategy Specialist/Advisor is a high-impact individual contributor who supports enterprise-level strategic priorities, evaluates growth and portfolio opportunities, monitors market and competitive developments, and helps translate strategy into executable workplans. The role requires structured problem solving, strong analytical and financial capability, commercial acumen, and the ability to communicate complex issues clearly for senior executives.
The ideal candidate brings experience in strategy, consulting, corporate development, finance, market analysis, or the energy industry, with a strong understanding of how value is created across oil and gas, LNG, power, and broader energy value chains. This individual will work closely with Strategy, Fundamentals, Corporate Development, Finance, Marketing & Commercial, and Operations teams to develop insights, frame decisions, and support execution of the company’s strategic agenda.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic Analysis & Business Support
- Support the development, refresh, and communication of enterprise strategy, strategic initiatives, long-range ambitions, and annual strategy agendas.
- Prepare and deliver high quality presentations and materials for executive leadership and the Board.
- Translate strategic themes into practical workplans, milestones, signposts, decision points, and leadership discussion materials.
- Develop analyses, business cases, and recommendations that support senior management and executive decision-making.
- Help embed commercial acumen, value-chain thinking, and disciplined decision processes into strategy routines and leadership materials.
- Contribute to cross-functional initiatives that advance growth, portfolio resilience, and long-term value creation.
Portfolio, Capital, and Resource Trade-Offs
- Frame strategic options using clear criteria, including value potential, risk, feasibility, timing, affordability, capability requirements, and execution complexity.
- Develop decision frameworks that compare competing opportunities and clarify implications for capital allocation, resource deployment, capability buildout, and sequencing.
- Partner with Finance, Planning, and business leaders to connect strategy with financial plans, performance expectations, and investment priorities.
- Support portfolio and resource trade-off discussions by surfacing strategic choices, constraints, risks, and value-creation pathways.
Market, Customer, and Competitive Intelligence
- Monitor market trends, customer needs, competitor shifts, regulatory developments, technology shifts, and industry benchmarks relevant to the company's strategy.
- Create concise intelligence updates, dashboards, peer comparisons, and strategic implications for leadership review.
Opportunity Assessment
- Evaluate business opportunities across the energy value chain, including upstream assets, LNG, power, marketing, commercial optimization, and energy infrastructure.
- Assess market attractiveness, competitive positioning, value drivers, strategic fit, risk profile, and execution requirements.
- Collaborate with Corporate Development and Finance on valuation analyses, investment cases, and strategic rationale for potential opportunities.
Job Specific Skills
- Knowledge of oil, natural gas, LNG, power markets, or broader energy value chains preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to structure ambiguous business questions and develop practical recommendations.
- Experience developing business cases, strategic analyses, financial models, and executive-level presentations.
- Strong financial literacy, including familiarity with valuation concepts, scenario analysis, performance metrics, and capital trade-offs.
- Ability to work cross-functionally, influence without direct authority, and build credibility with senior stakeholders.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analysis into clear executive-ready messages.
Education
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or related field; MBA strongly preferred.
Experience
- Minimum: 8–12 years of experience in strategy, management consulting, corporate development, investment banking, equity research, finance, commercial, or energy industry roles.
