Job Summary
The Energy Markets Analyst will contribute immediately through market research, data analysis, and stakeholder communication while having the opportunity to constantly learn and expand your capabilities as the business and division grow. More than just supporting existing processes - you'll help create them, shape our analytical culture, and define the team's ethos and strategic ambitions. Working with energy commodity datasets across natural gas, LNG, power, and related markets, in this role, your ideas and voice will matter, and we will actively encourage you to contribute ideas and shape how our team approaches problems while building relationships that drive commercial decisions. This role reports to the Director of Fundamental and Quantitative Analysis.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct market research and analysis across energy commodity markets, monitoring news, regulatory developments, and fundamental supply/demand drivers that impact trading positions and commercial strategy
- Support data quality assessment and basic analysis using energy commodity datasets, working with data engineers and data scientists to ensure usability for business applications
- Develop and maintain market intelligence reports, dashboards, and visualizations that communicate insights to trading, commercial, and analytical teams
- Create internal research notes and presentations to share market developments, analytical findings, and business intelligence with stakeholders across the organization
- Monitor real-time market conditions and provide timely analysis identifying opportunities and risks for commercial decision-making
- Collaborate with Analytics team members, traders, and commercial stakeholders to understand business requirements and support analytical initiatives
- Build cross-functional relationships to enhance internal information sharing and ensure analytical efforts align with broader business objectives
- Support various analytical projects and ad-hoc requests as business needs evolve
Job Specific Skills
- Exposure to energy commodities (natural gas, power markets, crude oil, NGLs, or related markets) through work experience, internships, or academic focus
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with demonstrated experience in data analysis and problem-solving
- Proficiency with Excel and SQL; experience with data analysis and visualization tools preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to translate analytical findings into clear, actionable insights for business stakeholders
- Understanding of energy commodity market fundamentals and demonstrated ability to quickly learn complex market dynamics
Education
Minimum: High school diploma or GED
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree - from accredited university - Marketing, Business, Economics or related field
Experience
Minimum: 0 - 2 years related work experience
Additional Qualifications
- Experience in energy markets, quantitative analysis, research, or related analytical roles, OR recent graduate with strong academic background in relevant field
- Natural Gas Market Knowledge: Understanding of natural gas fundamentals, basis relationships, pipeline systems, storage dynamics, or related market structures
- Programming Skills: Experience with Python/Pandas, R, or similar analytical programming languages to enable self-sufficiency with large datasets and collaboration with technical team members
- Energy Industry Experience: Internships, projects, or work experience at energy trading firms, commodity companies, utilities, or related energy organizations
- Market Research Experience: Track record of producing market research, analytical reports, or investment research for internal or external consumption
- Academic Background: Academic background demonstrating strong critical reasoning, analytical thinking, and inter/multidisciplinary comfort, including mathematics, statistics, engineering, economics, liberal arts, or other fields, will be considered
- Communication Skills: Strong presentation skills and ability to influence decision-making through data-driven insights
