Job Summary
The Director of Natural Gas Trading leads the strategic direction, market execution, and risk management of a physical natural gas trading portfolio. This senior-level role oversees flow assurance of equity production, optimizes and trades around the portfolio, including transportation and storage assets, manages team performance, and ensures compliance with regulatory and internal governance requirements.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic Market Leadership
- Lead market analysis and develop trading strategies aligned with company goals
- Monitor market fundamentals (supply/demand, weather, pipeline constraints, storage economics) and adjust positions to capture value or reduce exposure
- Optimize procurement, sales, transportation and storage across regional pipeline networks
Trading & Portfolio Management
- Own the P&L performance for the gas trading book, including short-term trading and optimization and medium term structured deals
- Oversee a trading book and deliver budgeted revenue targets
- Execute physical and financial natural gas trades within established risk limits
- Anticipate client and market needs to facilitate large transactions
Asset & Logistics Optimization
- Maximize value from transportation capacity, storage, and optionality
- Coordinate with schedulers and operations teams to ensure efficient flow and minimize imbalances
Stakeholder & Client Engagement
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with suppliers, customers, pipeline operators, and marketers
- Collaborate with internal teams across Production, Corporate Development, Analytics, Risk, Finance, and Legal
- Negotiate and structure commercial agreements for gas supply, transport, storage and sales
Regulatory & Compliance Leadership
- Ensure all activities comply with FERC, pipeline tariffs, and company policies
- Maintain accurate records and support audits, reporting, and governance frameworks
- Promote a culture of responsible finance, ethics, and strong controls
Team Leadership & Development
- Ability to provide on-the-job training, performance assessment, coaching, motivation, and career development to employees
- Foster a high-performance environment focused on analytical rigor and disciplined risk-taking
Job Specific Skills
- Advanced negotiating skills
- Advanced reasoning and problem solving
- Advanced knowledge of pipeline operations including pipeline nomination process, electronic bulletin boards and pipeline tariffs
- Advanced knowledge of gas contracts, high degree of commodity markets and pricing, fundamental understanding of economic principles and application to oil and gas markets
- Deep familiarity with risk metrics and trading system workflows
- Ability to provide on-the-job training, performance assessment, coaching, motivation, and career development to employees
- Knowledge of administrative procedures and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, and the coordination of people and resources
- Ability to ensure all employees are operating within all Expand Energy, state, and federal guidelines, policies, and regulations
Education
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree - from accredited university - Marketing, Business Management or related field
Experience
Minimum: 12 years related work experience
Preferred: 2 years in management
