Job Summary
The Corporate Development Engineering Advisor is a senior technical leader responsible for driving the integration of engineering analysis into the company’s corporate development strategy, including acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and long-term portfolio optimization. This role operates with a high degree of autonomy and influence, providing expert-level technical and commercial insight that shapes investment decisions, deal structures, and capital allocation priorities.
The Advisor serves as a trusted partner to executive leadership, bridging engineering, finance, and strategy to ensure that complex asset evaluations, risk assessments, and development scenarios are rigorously analyzed and aligned with corporate objectives. This position requires deep expertise in natural gas assets, advanced analytical capabilities, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary efforts across the deal lifecycle.
Job Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Technical Leadership & Asset Evaluation
- Lead comprehensive technical evaluations of complex natural gas assets, including operated, non-operated, and basin-wide portfolios
- Provide expert-level analysis of reservoir performance, reserves potential, and long-term recovery strategies using advanced engineering methodologies
- Oversee and validate decline curve analysis, material balance, volumetrics, and probabilistic resource assessments
- Integrate subsurface, production, facilities, and operational insights to develop holistic asset valuations
- Conduct high-level screening and prioritization of acquisition targets and portfolio optimization opportunities
Corporate Development & Transaction Execution
- Serve as the primary engineering advisor for acquisition, divestiture, and joint venture transactions
- Lead technical due diligence efforts, including reserves audits, type curve validation, capital efficiency analysis, and operational risk assessments
- Direct development of production forecasts, capital programs, and operating assumptions for financial modeling and investment analysis
- Identify and quantify key risks, uncertainties, and value drivers that impact asset valuation and deal structuring
- Provide strategic input into negotiations, including structuring considerations, contingencies, and upside capture
- Partner with senior leadership to formulate investment recommendations for executive and board-level decision-making
Planning, Forecasting & Portfolio Optimization
- Lead development planning initiatives, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy, capital discipline, and market conditions
- Provide oversight of long-range planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes across multiple assets or regions
- Evaluate complex drilling programs, spacing strategies, and completion designs to optimize resource recovery and capital efficiency
- Drive portfolio optimization efforts, including asset rationalization, capital allocation strategies, and performance benchmarking
Advanced Analytics & Technical Innovation
- Champion the use of advanced analytical tools and methodologies, including probabilistic modeling, scenario analysis, and data-driven forecasting
- Utilize and oversee the application of engineering and economic software (e.g., Aries, PHDWin) to validate reserves and financial projections
- Guide the development and implementation of standardized evaluation tools, automation workflows, and data integration processes
- Leverage advanced analytics (e.g., Python, SQL, data visualization platforms) to enhance decision-making and improve technical rigor
- Ensure quality, consistency, and transparency of technical assumptions used across corporate development analyses
Cross-Functional Leadership & Influence
- Act as a key liaison between Corporate Development, Engineering, Finance, Land, Operations, and Executive Leadership
- Translate complex technical findings into clear, actionable insights for commercial and executive audiences
- Lead cross-functional teams through evaluation processes, ensuring alignment on assumptions, risks, and strategic implications
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and corporate development team members
- Support post-acquisition integration by aligning technical assumptions with operational execution and capital planning
Job Specific Skills
- Expert-level knowledge of reservoir engineering, production engineering, and natural gas asset development
- Advanced proficiency in decline curve analysis, reserves estimation, probabilistic methods, and economic evaluation
- Deep understanding of unconventional resource plays (e.g., shale gas, tight gas, CBM) and associated development strategies
- Strong ability to integrate technical data into strategic and financial decision-making frameworks
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills applied to complex, ambiguous scenarios
- Proven ability to lead multiple high-impact evaluations in a fast-paced, transaction-driven environment
- Advanced communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and executive leadership
- Extensive experience with public and proprietary data sources (e.g., Enverus) and engineering/economic platforms
Education
- Minimum: Bachelor’s degree - from accredited university - Engineering from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) program, or Professional Engineer (PE) license, or Master’s degree - from accredited university - Master’s of Engineering degree from a program in which the correlating Bachelor’s degree is accredited by the ABET EAC
Experience
Minimum: 12 years related work experience in the oil & gas industry, preferably with exposure to natural gas assets, reserves, or asset evaluation
