Job Summary
The Water Sourcing Specialist plays a critical role in securing and managing water resources for oil and gas operations. This position involves identifying, negotiating, and securing water sources while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and industry standards. The specialist will collaborate with landowners, regulatory agencies, and internal teams to optimize water sourcing strategies.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Interacts with federal, state and local government officials regarding oil and gas operations
- Coordinates and works closely with all disciplines within Expand Energy
- Performs all duties in accordance with Expand’s EHS Guidelines
- Water Source Identification: Research and evaluate potential water sources, including groundwater, surface water, and wastewater, for operational use.
- Job/Project Walkouts: Walk potential routes with operations and regulatory teams to determine feasibility of line construction.
- Negotiation & Permitting: Secure necessary permits and negotiate agreements with landowners, municipalities, and regulatory bodies.
- Route Planning & Logistics: Develop efficient water transfer routes using mapping tools like Google Earth and USGS topographic maps.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations regarding water usage and environmental impact.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Work closely with operations teams, engineers, and environmental specialists to align water sourcing strategies with project needs.
- Data Management: Maintain accurate records of water volumes, transfer activities, and contractual agreements.
- Market Analysis: Monitor industry trends and pricing to optimize sourcing strategies and cost efficiency.

- Proficiency in GIS mapping tools and regulatory permitting processes
- Field and office-based work with travel to water source locations.
- Collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Fast-paced and dynamic industry requiring adaptability and problem-solving skills.
Education & Experience
Minimum: High school diploma or GED and 5 - 8 years related work experience or an equivalent substitution for education of 9 - 12 years related work experience
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field (preferred).
- Experience in water sourcing, procurement, or environmental compliance within the oil and gas industry.
